The Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops has created the FedGas Achievement Award to recognize deserving high school students of gas co-op members across rural Alberta. Four $1,000 awards will be handed out at the FedGas Annual General Meeting this November. The award payment is issued directly to the recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eligibility:<\/strong>
– Children of co-operative members of gas utilities within the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd.
– Memberships must have been in place at least one full year.
– Preference will be given to applicants entering either a field of study which applies to the Natural Gas Industry (e.g., Gas Utility Operators, Gasfitters, Pipefitters, Power Engineering, Heavy Equipment Technician, etc.) or to Rural-based programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acceptable Institutions and Courses:<\/strong>
Admission to first year of a degree, diploma, or apprenticeship program at any eligible accredited post secondary institute of learning in Alberta listed in the application form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Academic Standards (High School)<\/strong>
Candidates must have completed the course work of the last one (1) year of schooling required for admission to the post secondary institution and must have obtained an academic standing of at least seventy five percent (75%) in core subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Evaluation:<\/strong>
– A written essay (minimum 250 words) discussing themselves, their goals and why they believe the Federation should grant them an award.
– Two (2) reference letters from any combination of teachers, employers, coaches, or ministers, provided they are not relatives. These references should emphasize the qualities they feel the applicant displays which makes them an appropriate candidate for this award.
– Academic transcripts, and any achievement in extracurricular and community activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
