Financial Controller

Position Summary:
Our mission is to provide affordable and reliable services to our members, promote natural gas and help rural communities grow. We are looking for a Financial Controller who can support this mission by bringing change and innovation to the organization while remaining financially compliant.
Job Type:
Full-time 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in person
Salary:
From $40.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and monitor the financial operations and internal controls of the company
• Prepare financial statements and reports for management and the Board
• Conduct regular account and bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy
• Post accounts payable transactions, process invoices, make payments to vendors and verify financial data for use in maintaining accounts payable records
• Perform bi-weekly payroll using Sage 300 and HRMS, manage benefits and pension and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
• Assist, communicate and compile documents for external auditors and ensure compliance with audit requirements
• Prepare and file government returns and remittances
• Maintain internal project job costing and report job costing into an external grant system
• Perform inventory reconciliations and oversee year-end inventory count
• Assist in budget preparation and continuous analysis of budget trends and variances
• Evaluate financial processes to identify opportunities for improvement
• Utilize accounting software Sage 300 to record and analyze financial transactions

Qualifications and Experience:

• CPA designation preferred but not required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Experience in the utilities industry would be an asset
• 5+ years of experience as a Financial Controller or similar role
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Experience with Sage 300 accounting software would be preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products especially Excel
• Experience performing full-cycle accounting
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
• Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting
• Critical thinker and problem solver
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
